Former KC Wizard Joins Irish Legend

Before Packie Bonnar made that save, the most talked-about Irish goal-keeper was Pat Jennings. The much-loved gentleman from Newry, with giant hands, at one stage was the world-record holder for international appearances.

Tony Meola, former MLS championsip winner with the Wizards, and always liked in Kansas City, has just earned his 100th cap and joins Ireland's Pat Jennings in a fairly small club of great world goalkeepers, such as England's Peter Shilton,Denmark's Peter Schmeichel, and Jorge Campos from Mexico.

Meola made his 100th international appearance for the US in a friendly against Jamaica that finished in a 1-1 draw, eighteen years after his first appearance.
