Stephanie, I don't know that I'd advise anything - so much is down to personal preference or what you can live it. And as you know there is no upper limit to what you can pay.

I wouldn't call these tips, just what I actually do:

I just use the USPS rather than FedEx or UPS or another service, because since I tried them the first ime they've never let me down.

Typically I ship either 12" x 16" framed or 16" x 20" unframed and once you stay within certain dimensions I find the prices to mail globally quite reasonable. Sometimes it means I have to ship at a slower rate to stay close to the fixed shipping charges I apply but most times people don't need a painting urgently.

I won't cheat on the packaging to save money though and if that means it costs me more than the $25 I've allowed so be it. Sometimes it costs me less, and I reckon it's as good as even overall or at least not worth worrying about the odd time that it isn't.

Actual postage I've paid to global destinations has varied from $16 to $41 but most have been close to the $25 I've charged to date. I believe there's value - not least in terms of saving time - in the simplicity of just applying a single standardized charge.

Also for the cheaper paintings I mostly don't insure, effectively self-insuring I suppose, and whether that's financially wise can only be known whenever I finish selling paintings.

The biggest hit I take is in time spent packaging, so I may change the way I'm doing things to make that easier.

Did you have a link to a website with your work?

Eolai -

How are you able to charge such reasonable and standardized shipping anywhere in the world? I am in the process of getting some art to London and the shipping is ridiculous. I must be doing something wrong....any tips?

Angela, there's no problem purchasing from NZ - indeed I shipped one there a couple of months back.

I charge US$25 for shipping to NZ (and everywhere else in the world except here in the Us) which gets added on to the painting purchase price in the shopping cart when you give it your address.

If you need any further info, let me know - though I should add that my emails to you are getting rejected.
