Sorry Nicole the end times apply to all events including family, informal and formal alike, whether large or small - and I'm only talking about events with alcohol.

It applies to events in pubs and other locations so not wanting to clean up is irrelevant - but whatever the reasoning the point is that it happens, wholesale, broadly across the community.

As you may have guessed by now, I'm not talking about my friends; I'm talking about friends' friends, and friends' families, etc. I suspect I'd enjoy a party thrown by you - I mean you wouldn't put an end time on an invitation, would you? Regardless of the event?

Hmmm...this entirely depends on the event. If it's a family event, there's no end time because family is always welcome. If alcohol is present, there's obviously no end time. Sounds like your friends are rigid! But it may be that they hate having to clean up parties that lasted all night, and want some idea of when people will leave, because they can't afford to have a huge party.

What an absolutely ridiculous idea. Last major night of belly-bumping at the bar I had ended in a taxi journey from somewhere near Rialto at 6am. It was nice though - the birds were singing and it was getting bright.
The end-time on invitations seems to have creeped in on invitations in Ireland recently. Kids' parties always seem to have start and end times. Which, I suppose, is not such a major offence if parents want to get the little beggars out of the house after they've wallpapered the place in ice-cream and orange juice. :-)

Sweary - impossible without reference to the following day's schedule.
