Kansas City Feis
The Annual Kansas City Feis, takes place Labor Day Weekend, at Crown Center, in the Westin Hotel.
‘Feis’ literally means ‘Festival’, being one of many Irish language options for the word (fleadh and Féile are a couple of others). However in the context of the Annual Kansas City Feis, ‘Feis’ means ‘Dancing Competition’, specifically an Irish Dancing competition.

Feis is a Gaelic word, pronounced ‘Fesh’. If you need to refer to the plural, you say feiseanna; you don’t say ‘feshes’. Ever. In fact if you hear anybody saying they love going to ‘feshes’, punch them in the face and tell them their children are ugly.
For the first Kansas City Feis last year, I designed the Feis website, and maintained it until earlier this year when I handed it over to Joseph Manning. Most of you in Kansas City will know Joseph as the stunningly talented Irish Dancer who is a pupil of Christine O’Riada. Well, he’s more than that. He’s also a talented web designer.
Particularly skilled in the area of Flash, Joseph was a pleasure to hand the site to. Everything was smooth and professional. Joseph was thorough and efficient. Visit the Feis website to see his work.
From early in the morning Saturday until the late afternoon when the competition ends, you’ll see curls bouncing past you in the vicinity of Crown Center and the Festival there. Ideally there will be young girl underneath those curls. If you want to attend the Feis be advised that admission is separate from the Fest i.e. a ticket to either event will not gain you entry to the other.
The Feis is sponsored by the O’Riada Academy of Irish Dance and the Kansas City Irish Festival
