Garren,

I think you're right that it's not what USF was intended for, but I don't see anything to be fooled by. The Iowa number may be weird, but only in set-up not in pricing. If you have free minutes on your mobile plan or a Long Distance plan that will let you call Iowa then the call really is free. The cost of the call to Iowa depends on whatever plan you already have. You could, if you were a crazy, whacky sort of person, even use Skype to call Iowa - though I see Jajah have already blocked the number (not because it's evil but because it would cost them too much)

Nightmare,

Here's a Dublin number for ya, 011 353 1 668 8777

This is nothing else than Futurephone, a weird Iowa toll number that costs you at least 6 cents or more per minute. The state of Iowa, or better these bogus companies, take advantage of an FCC kickback supported by the US Universal Service Fund (USF), so the company generating the calls makes money out of the USF and you. I'm more than sure that this isn't allowed to continue for long -- that's really not what the USF is for! Don't get fooled by these services!

Since I don't know anyone in Ireland, can I get some phone numbers from you too? I'll call anywhere if it is funny.
